DOSBox version 0.72 available (Announce)

The DOSBox Team has released version 0.72 on 26 August 2007.

Excerpt from file ChangeLog:
  - Fixed unitialized variable in joystick. (Fixes crashes on Vista and
    Mac OS X)
  - Some bugfixes and speedups to the 64 bit recompiling core.
  - Fixed sign flag on soundblaster dma transfers (Space Quest 6 intro)
  - Fixed a bug in keyboard layout processing code and fixed certain
    layouts.
  - Fixed Dreamweb.
  - Improved speed unlocking when running cycles=max.
  - Fixed a crash related to the tab completion in the shell.
  - Improved aspect correction code. Should now be like how a real monitor
    handles it.
  - Fixed a bug in the xms status report code. (Blake Stone 1.0 shareware)
  - Added a lot more keyboard layouts.
  - Fix crash related to changing the scaler before a screen was created.
  - Hopefully fixed compilation on *bsd.
  - Enabled auto cpu core selection for recompiling core as well.
  - Made the used joystick selectable when 4axis is specified.
  - Added some hints for inexperienced DOS users to the shell.

What' your problem? It also allows non-intrusive debugging of DOS apps or games. So it might be a great help for developers.

It's a great piece of software (multi-platform too, thankfully!), but of course real DOS is much much faster. DOSBox is quite popular these days with retro collections (id, Sierra). I do wish the DOSBox developers were less close-minded with their "only games, only games" attitude, however.

Just to let you all know: I currently build a version 0.72 heavy-debug binary for public release. Last official one by Qbix was version 0.70: DOSBox debugger.

Maybe I shouldn't have asked Qbix for some advise, because he just made DOSBox0.72-Debug-win32-installer.exe available in the aforementioned thread instead of helping me. :-|

Hint: You can use 7-Zip to extract dosbox.exe from the installer.
