The absence of javascr*** is one of the main reasons I use it so much.
I hope it is NEVER included in Links, not in the DOS version nor the Linux version.
With NO javascr*** Links will do what I want it to do, not what snooping websites want it to do ! --- AUSREG Consultancy http://www.ausreg.com

The applicable browser for Today`s Web is WebKit or Gecko ....
The Links ? I think that not :) |

Unfortunly this limited much the use of links in the most parts of standard websites.
Actually most pages DON'T WORKING if js it's disabled or not present..
So a browser without s capabilty it's not full usable and remain a " gadget" :(
And if you have tears regarding privacy i suggest not to eliminate JS , but use special browser like TOR..

I have not found it so.

I must go to different websites then. My own domains do not require js.
Nearly all websites I frequent work fine without js.

I like gadgets. :)

In DOS ? I don't think so.
Arachne and Links in DOS, and Links in Linux.
But each to his own. :) --- AUSREG Consultancy http://www.ausreg.com

Most sites have a "mobile" version which is more lightweight and usually contains much less javascr***. For example, Facebook's got one.
Links is great. It works very well in a low memory Linux environments. DJGPP version has some overhead, but if you have enough memory it will work fine.
Although, it might not work in extremly low memory environments (1-4 MiB). |

Lol. It seems there is a filter on "Javascr1pt" on this board. |

For the honour of DOS!
Actually I would prefer a javascr*** support. No need to have it enabled, but if it can be compiled with optional js I would like to have it that way. And it can be. If I knew how to compile it to DOS I tried, but I don't know. I already sent an e-mail to Mikulas Patocka and I hope there will be a js enabled binary, because it's a very good browser for DOS, but without js I just cannot say that it's fully capable. It's almost, most of the sites work somehow, more with some workarounds (I can even watch Youtube videos using Keepvid and RAM-disk download), but not everything and not everything with full functionality. Facebook, for example, only works as m.facebook.com. It's still better than any other DOS browser does, and it works normally as it is a "javascr***less" Facebook, but mbasic Facebook lacks some posts (eg. videos) which are present on the js versions. If I could temporarily turn on js I would be glad. And this is what Links provides when compiled with --enable-javascr***. That would be a new milestone in the history of modern DOS-usage. (The current verson is also a milestone but not as far away). --- DOS isn't about why. It's about why not. |

Hi,
you can download source and executable for dos for LINKS with SOME JS FUNCTIONALITY ENABLE from here
https://www.ibiblio.org/pub/micro/pc-stuff/freedos/files/net/links/old/2.8.js/links-2.8.js.tar.7z
NOTE : not all requested JS functions for surfing "Firefox-like" are enabled.
I hope Mikulas compile for dos with js enabled, but it's hard :(

Thank you!
I am trying to use it. I'm now from that version. I see it recognizes javascr***, but except for the automatic redirections I couldn't find much of them working. I still cannot upload a video on Faceboo, I need to transfer it to my phone, loading the desktop version on that, and use it, or reboot to Windows. However I start to experiment with it now, I'm shure I will find some use of it in the future. Thanks :) --- DOS isn't about why. It's about why not. |
