Failure on DHCP testing Netsurf (DOSX) |
Hi at all.
i've testing Netsurf , a web browser based on sdl.
I've download win executable from here :
http://ci.netsurf-browser.org/builds/windows/
I delete the content of /TEmp directory (seggested from Japheth -hx bug) start doslfn and drivers for my orinoco card , then invoke Dpmild32 -g netsurf.exe.
The mouse coursor's appear on grey fied, then i receive " Configure via DHCP" and the program stuck.
I don't understand how " working around " to this problem ..
Someone know how patch the executable (or winsock.dll hx) or , maybe ,compiling
the source using djgpp?
Thanks

Why not to use DOS Dillo browser instead messing with win32 app? --- DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access. |

Or Arachne, or Links graphical ?
All three run in DOS, are fully graphical and do not need HX. |

Can you give a link to Links graphical? How old is the latest version? I didn't tried it yet. --- DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access. |

Ok, I downloaded it. However, it "doesn't work" in Windows; all I get is an empty Window and when I enter an URL, I get a MessageBox, saying "CSSBase".
Since it didn't work in Windows, I didn't even try with HX. --- MS-DOS forever! |

Yes. http://www.ausreg.com/dos_ports/links21b.7z
Glenn McCorkle also has it on his domain.
http://glennmcc.dyndns.org/download/mik/links21b.zip
Use it by calling "links -g" for graphical, and just "links" for text only.

Works nice, small, compact, can handle also complex websites very fast, CZ font included...
Unfortunatelly I cannot set vmode higher than 1024x768 @32bpp (in allegro.cfg), maybe it was compiled with some old allegro... --- DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access. |

Hi Guys,
I explain my point of view regarding dos graphic browser..
Actually the most important sites uses intensivly HTTPS and JS.
Arachne it' faster but don't support both, so i dont'use it.
Dillo it's quite good, but it's slow if encounter a site with many images (it's impossible to scroll page during download) and don't have JS.
Links seem intersting but dos version have some trouble on https (try to connect to Gmail page receive error message)and js don't work.
So i hope in a patch for dillo..may be this?

There are no DOS browsers that have JS, and I doubt there ever will.
But it is possible to get around _some_ JS with several Arachne plug-ins.
There are a few DOS browsers that handle HTTPS fairly well: Links, Elinks, Lynx.

The problem with the Gmail page is JS not HTTPS. --- AUSREG Consultancy http://www.ausreg.com
