SBC that will boot DOS and has standard IO (Miscellaneous) |
Hi all,
I'm working on upgrading a couple old games I wrote years ago to put into an arcade cabinet. With so many Single Board Computers (SBC) out now I wanted to use one instead of a whole PC. They're small, quiet, and generally consume less power. I know I could have a Raspberry Pi boot in DOSBox. But I would rather have real x86 chip.
I found a couple but they're 2-3x more then a Mini ITX board. Anyone hear of such a beast without costing an arm and a leg?
Thanks |

Maybe Vortex86* based SBC like this?

It has Integrated ALC 262 HD Audio - nut much fun under DOS with it.
Maybe it would be better get some old AMD Geode board (~300-400MHz) that emulates SB via VSA (works good for RM and PM DOS programs) or something with ISA slot to put real SB card in it... --- DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access. |

At Timeline, Inc ( http://www.timeline-inc.com/ ) there is a couple
of 486 SBCs not too expensive. I don't know whether they will fit
your requirements.

sorry for bumping old post, but there is a video talking about building a DOS machine for retro gaming with PC/104 SBCs.

Nice, I like the PC/104 soundcard project. PCB design files are available:
