HXRT (Miscellaneous) |
I'm trying to get my MSDOS system to fit
on one floppy.
I have 319,553 bytes free on the floppy,
after deleting EVERYTHING unnecessary.
I want to install HXRT.
1. Can it's EXE files be compressed with UPX or APACK? This would help.
2. Are all of the files really necessary, can I delete something?

I think all you need is BIN/*.* and of course you can compress that (ZIP, 7-Zip, PAQ) and unpack to RAM disk. |

Most likely NO (and most files are DLL's, not EXE's ).

NO, why don't you test ?

YES

delete MSMOUSE.SYS HIMEM.SYS EMM386.EXE ... ... ...
maybe you can also live without HDPMI16 DPMILD16 HXLDR ... .... .... --- This is a LOGITECH mouse driver, but some software expect here

HDPMI32/HDPMI16 [EDIT: and *.DLL files] might cause problems.

It depends on what you want to do. HDPMI32.exe is a full DOS-extender, which can work independently. Both the PE loader (DPMILD32.EXE) and the Win32 emulation dlls (*.DLL) are optional. --- MS-DOS forever! |

Sorry but HIMEM EMM386 etc are not part of the HXRT package.
That's what I was asking about.

If HDPMI32 is an extender can I then remove CWSDPMI v7?
And, what's a good way to test to see if a WIN CONSOLE
APP works?

The HXRT programs are all a group working together.
They are a system making it possible to run other
WIN CONSOLE programs.
I am looking for a way to do a comprehensive test
to see if they are ALL working properly.
This would probably involve running several known
to be ok WIN CONSOLE apps to see if everything
is good.
Then I would run the HXRT EXE files through an EXE
file compresser (APACK -or- UPX) and run the tests
again to see if everything is stoll ok.
I need some help here.
