For your info, the following --

To: Johnson <johnson@tmfc.net>
Subject: Please DELETE My Drivers From Your Site.
Johnson,
Due to further problems caused by insufferable Germans and by
unnamed individuals likely from America, I have now requested
3 times that Robert Riebisch DELETE the links from his "BTTR"
site to the XMGR/UIDE and SHCDX33C drivers here.
Riebisch has not done so, nor has he acknowledged my requests
in any way. Therefore, with much regret, I must ask you to
TAKE DOWN all files relating to the XMGR and UIDE drivers and
the SHCDX33C Redirector program from your website.
It is sad that Mr. Riebisch is unable to respect my wishes as
AUTHOR of those drivers, and I refuse to tolerate the kind of
ABUSE that he allows a few members of his BTTR forum to throw
at me. I am tired of "BTTR", thus this action is necessary.
You are free to provide the drivers privately to your friends
at the China DOS Union and to others throughout Asia, at your
sole discretion, and I will continue my own arrangements with
a few good friends, as well. However, I no-longer desire a
"public" offering of my work from your site.
I regret having to take this action.

I'm Canadian, not German or Nazi; the two of which are not as linked as you suggest. Just because a bunch of people are German or don't tolerate the behavior of someone who acts like a whiny, mentally incapacitated child does not imply they're Nazi. That's a huge insult to everyone who lived through the war and especially inconsiderate with remembrance day so near.

From a note I sent to Lucho and Khusraw, as they might be "interested":
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Re: "Sol", note that he admits to being Canadian, and note his comment
about "Remembrance Day". If we can believe Riebisch about the prior
work by "Sol", and as I have had to "deal with" EXACTLY those types of
sentiments about a year ago, I can offer a probable "identity" for our
friend "Sol": **** *******!! ["Approximate" size of his name!]
I had planned to reply to "Sol" about my country ALSO having lost many
who will be "remembered" on 11-Nov-2007, our "Veteran's Day". I also
had planned to tell "Sol" about my Jewish Uncle who survived Auschwitz
and still REFUSES to have his S.S. serial-number removed from his left
forearm, as he does NOT want to FORGET seeing his Father/Mother/Sister
sent to the OVENS!!
["Sol?"] has heard all that from me before, WITH my considered opinion
that he (like SO many other Canadians/Gringos!) suffers from what many
psychiatrists call the "Pollyanna Syndrome". "Pollyanna", played by
Hayley Mills in the 1959 Disney film, was a girl raised only to Hearts
and Flowers, and was thus UNABLE to handle lifes ADVERSITIES when they
occurred later. Such people flatly CRACK UP mentally, and "shrinks"
(psyhiatrists, often called "head shrinkers"!) make their LIVINGS thru
treating such cracked-up cases! ["Sol?"] rejected that as well, thus
there is no need for me to repeat it with him, again.
So, since they all believe me to be a racist and a "mental case", I'll
just be silent and exit the BTTR forum, with a "Zu Befehl" and a click
of my heels to ["Sol?"] as I go! |

NOT Ashamed, NOT AT ALL!! |
Since I already know the answer to the question I asked at the end of the previous post...here are two completely different responses to my post regarding UPX compression of UIDE:
"The risk is pretty circumstancial & minimal, so I'm going to stick to keeping it compressed."
or
"Good point, 1k is really nothing when it adds [minimal or very circumstancial] risk and anyone who wants to can compress it themselves, I guess there's no need to compress it."
Either of those answers would've resulted in "Hrmm, okay, sounds good." by me.
While you may not have slept through grammar, spelling or sentence structure english classes, I'm quite certain you missed any portion regarding "communication", which is not a form of precise math. |

sol was right: UPX is needed to decompress a compressed executable. If sol had written that UPX is required to run a packed executable, then you would be right - but sol didn't write that, so you are wrong.

If you mean decompression just into RAM, UPX is not needed. But if somebody wants do decompress the driver INTO FILE, then UPX is definetly needed. About UPX and drivers:
I've tried to pack some MZ-style DOS drivers (USBASPI.SYS, DI1000DD.SYS, ASPI.SYS) with UPX - sometimes effect was unpredictable (especially when DEVICEHIGH=...); when 15Kb driver expands to 45-50Kb it can damage some UMBs. But in your case risk is minimal...
P.S. I don't understand the reason for flamewar - sources are opened, everybody can make non-UPXed version. |

Also absolutely correct, and exactly the point I tried to make in my FIRST
post about UIDE now being offered in "packed" form. Users who load UIDE
through the CONFIG.SYS file, directly after DOS is booted and when it has
plenty of available memory, should have NO problems. Users who load UIDE
at a time AFTER the CONFIG.SYS file is run, when there may NOT be a lot of
"free" memory, may have to "unpack" UIDE and load the unpacked driver, to
avoid precisely the situation you have seen.
It should also be pointed out that this is an "operational" problem with
DOS, due to its trying to "fit" programs and drivers into the least amount
of memory that will take them. However, DOS was written BEFORE "packing"
programs came into general use, and it does not KNOW that a program may be
"packed". So in cases OTHER than when .SYS files load through CONFIG.SYS
i.e. when memory availability may be a problem, an "unpacked" program or
driver may be necessary.
I say again: My drivers are .SYS files, NOT more-complex .EXE files, and
they need only normal "packing"/"unpacking" like has been done for nearly
20 years by PKZIP/PKUNZIP, RAR/UnRAR, and UPX. My drivers do NOT need any
"relocation" and thus are NOT subject to any of the bugs listed or perhaps
experienced by others who DO load more-complex files. My drivers use a
very simple absolute-image format. That keeps them simple and reliable.
> P.S. I don't understand the reason for flamewar - sources are opened,
> everybody can make non-UPXed version.
Why the "flame war" [if that is what it is]?? You are free to draw your
own conclusions. Mine are that I am forced to "deal with" a man who is
DESPERATE to avoid ADMITTING that he made MISTAKES regarding my drivers
and their use of UPX!! You are free to ask yourself: If UPX did have
such "Horror of HORRORS!" problems, why would it in fact be as successful
as it currently IS?? SORRY, if some "poor guys" using more-complex files
than my drivers have had trouble with it. I follow the K.I.S.S. principle
and have had NO problems with UPX, and I will continue to use it. |

It is a very good packer, but packing DOS SYS file is definetly a hack It is absolutely safe only without DEVICEHIGH. Usually publishers of DOS drivers (e.g. IBM, Panasonic) do not apply packers in it.
P.S. I understand, that UPX in your drivers is rather reliable. But just remember Murphy's law: "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong". Narrow UMBs can be seen rather often even in the beginning of loading drivers. |

I agree. However, XMGR is normally the first driver loaded, and it should
find a totally empty system which will cause it no problems. UIDE usually
loads soon afterward, as you can note in my README file examples. It only
"unpacks" from 6K to 7K, after which it DOES make its own checks for "free"
memory above 7K, when the user requests a /R cache which needs more memory.
This usually occurs only if a user wants over a 200- or 250-MB cache. For
most users who want 200-MB or less, UIDE will "leave behind" only its 1.75K
of logic and use "free" HMA space. This takes NO more upper-memory.
My original posting was in fact directed at users of FreeDOS, who have been
"advised" on their forums to load UIDE with DEVLOAD, after CONFIG.SYS runs.
This is because FreeDOS in its current form does NOT allow using the HMA by
CONFIG.SYS drivers. FreeDOS users must KNOW that if they want UIDE loaded
by DEVLOAD, that instance more-than-likely WILL require an unpacked driver!
I had hoped NOT to be so "technical" in my original posting, for such words
DO tend to "scare off" users. But that posting was made even MORE "scary"
by a completely WRONG comment that "Everyone needs to download UPX", and so
all of these words became NECESSARY.
> P.S. I understand, that UPX in your drivers is rather reliable. But just
> remember Murphy's law: "Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong". Narrow
> UMBs can be seen rather often, even in the beginning of loading drivers.
My understanding is that DOS must be "ordered" to place a .SYS driver into
memory OTHER than the largest-available UMB space, when CONFIG.SYS is run.
One can use the prefix switch /L:n to specify use of UMB area n instead of
the largest area. This normally is done to "pack" drivers into the B000-
B7FFh "monochrome video" space, when it is available. Users that do this
are expected to be "responsible" about it, i.e. test their CONFIG.SYS file
first. Without /L:n which few "know about", there is usually no problem.
FreeDOS users, and others who use DEVLOAD must also be "responsible" about
it. If they understand a bit about DOS and ARE responsible, no problems. |

Circus Maximus - good idea in its time: Feed annoying people to angry, hungry lions. Bye-bye Jack.

And if YOU were not so DESPERATE to avoid ADMITTING that your "Everyone else will now have to locate/download UPX to decompress" is nothing but a Flat-Ass
MISTAKE, this and other threads would NOT have been necessary!
Users of UIDE who load it normally, through the CONFIG.SYS file and NOT using
DEVLOAD or some other scheme, DO NOT need UPX and in my opinion ARE NOT at
any risk because the driver uses UPX unpacking!
Your "Everyone else ..." comment was FLATLY WRONG, and so far, you have done
EVERYTHING to avoid ADMITTING this! I will let others read this thread and
decide themselves whether or not you are a COWARD, who won't admit MISTAKES! |

Alright, lets continue your communication tutorial.
It wasn't a mistake, it could've been more explicit had I known you'd have a nervous breakdown if I didn't carefully craft it to keep you from misinterpreting it.
"Most people using the tool probably don't care to save 1k --- and like the bootdisk makers, those who do will have and know how to use UPX, whereas everyone else will now have to locate/download UPX to decompress."
There's three things to note:
1. See that "everyone else" wasn't the start of a sentence. It's referring to everyone who doesn't wish to save 1k for adding the [circumstancial/minimal] risk of a crash/problem.
2. "Everyone else" implies a great many things that should not need to be explicit, for example, it excludes those non-DOS users who will never download or use your drivers.
3. Consider "to decompress" as another constraint --- everyone else who wishes to decompress. I didn't say "everyone else who wishes to use the driver will have to download UPX." |

OK, if sol is wrong, and a UPX-compressed file can be decompressed without UPX, then you need to explain how. But guess what: It can't be done, therefore you can't explain how, therefore all you have left is changing the subject and whining about being persecuted. Your determination is a wonder to behold - if only it were about something real and not your paranoid fantasies. |

My original post was about loading UIDE as a driver. If you want to
uncompress UIDE, just load it. That will do the job. NO need to use
the main UPX program at all.
If you want to uncompress virtually ANY program or driver that has been
compressed by UPX, just load it. That will do the job. NO need to use
the main UPX program at all, exactly as the creators of UPX intended.
My original post WAS NOT about "tool makers" nor about "boot disk" makers
but about USERS loading UIDE for their own PERSONAL USE! The additions
by "Sol" were IRRELEVANT to that subject and made it seem like "Everyone"
who used UIDE needed UPX to do so! THAT was my objection to his post!
Even "Sol" now admits that he could have been a bit more explicit. You
should take note of that. |

This is not what I was referring to when I mentioned decompressing it. Anyone with half a brain was aware of this.

Again, read more carefully. It's your constant misinterpretation that means I have to be extremely explicit.
To illustrate, if I stated "It's cold outside.", most of the planet would understand. You, however, would require that I define the temperature parameters of "cold", specify that "outside" does not mean outside the current room but rather out of the building, and also specify that I mean today, not anytime in the past or future.
As far as communication goes, Jack, you've got the comprehension level of 3-year old. |

So Much For Leaving Quietly ... |
After almost 30 minutes of "thin air" from this forum, to think I was almost
able to turn off my system and finally LEAVE this forum quietly ...
Well then, "Sol", I and my poor communication skills will go elsewhere, as
I had intended to do, all day.
This time I cannot fault your "leader" RR, nor even Herr GeneralOberst Grech
who at least managed to keep-his-mouth-shut a HELL of a lot better than you,
Herr Oberst, or your "faithful dog" Herr Obersturmfuehrer (corporal) Steve.
You two now outrank ALL my "Carthaginian Salt Mine" bosses, a pack of IDIOT
co-workers (2 of whom I had to FIRE, and one of whom quit before I could!),
and many others I had the misfortune of having to "deal with" in computers.
I have always been a "reactive" person. If you doubt this, ask the writer
of LBAcache just how much he believes in UIDE was a "reaction" to HIM, as I
once promised that boy!
Sad, that you will not-now be able to use my next "reaction". May take me
time, but I will now focus all my efforts on taking UIDE to the next level,
as YOU WON'T BELIEVE! Not possible, you say? Ask the boy at the Circus.
Now then, "Sol", it is time for me, and my poor communication skills, to go elsewhere, as I meant to do, all day today. |

It's a shame, a damned shame that you have to deal with your inferiors. Such is the burden of greatness.

I need NONE of your medicine nor any of your misguided diagnoses to know you

and all like you need to be SHOT, for being worse than STUPID and only EVIL!
You and all like you are a DISGRACE to the United States, and you aptly prove
that you really MUST have "Slept thru High School", like so many other idiot
BRATS that our lawyers, politicians, and "Snake Oil" salesmen just LOVE to
have as their "patsies" or their SUCKERS! You and all like you have RUINED
this country, not-to-mention having RUINED software, an industry I once was
proud of. Not any more, "Little Stevie", not with Bullying SHITHEADS like
YOU in it!!
Why don't you simply learn to keep your God-Damned Mouth SHUT, same as your
dear Herr Oberst "Sol", whose self-righteous comments about me being "mental"
and about me having the comprehension of a 3-year-old are not only a JOKE
but just-plain INSULTS that mark him as the biggest DISGRACE to Canada I've
ALSO ever seen! Maybe you should teach him to LOSE his "Pollyanna Complex"
a mile wide and act like YOUR kind of SHITHEAD, so at least I could approach
BOTH you disreputable, bullying BASTARDS using only ONE frame of reference!!
If you ever DO learn to keep your bullying mouth SHUT, "Little Stevie", then
you will see me gone from this forum. If not, then I promise you and that
self-righteous Canadian DISGRACE that I will keep answering EVERY ONE of your
pigheaded comments on this forum! Not a problem to me, what words or what
context I need to use -- People WILL see you and Herr Oberst as even WORSE
than the ORIGINAL Bullying "Gang of Four", as Lucho has already named you!! |

Nope. Passed all my courses and graduated on time.

By talking back to you, ruined the whole country and software too? Fabulous!

Jack, Jack, so full of contradictions. First you say you will leave because we talk back to you, now you say you will stay because we talk back to you. Can't you stick to one position so we know where we stand? Of course not - you must stay and scatter your abuse, because that's what you do. But when you show no mercy for even a slight disagreement, you can expect no better for yourself. What goes around comes around. Leave or stay, I don't care, but if you stay I will not be silent and feed your delusion that your stream of garbage can drown me. |
