Higher resolution of text mode on new video cards (Users) |
Hello, Some new video cards (especially NVidia ones) do not support higher resolutions in text mode. For example, my graphics card (NVidia 9600 GSO 512) does not "understand" resolutions larger than 132 columns. I have some signals that newer cards do not support video modes with a resolution higher than 80x25. They display the contents of the video memory in text mode as if it were in graphics mode. Has anyone encountered this problem and know how to work around it? Maybe you can somehow set the high resolution text mode (e.g. by programming the card via PCI)? Thanks. |

Yes, unfortunately, it is common problem on newer videocards. You can try two utilities I have (but in reality I use very seldom): STM for DOS Textmode (Enhancer) Especially the STM is very powerful utility but it needs a lot of tuning and experiments. --- |

Some year ago I reported you I have problems with running your Dark Debugger that use some high-density (VESA?) textmode on my GTX670/970. But it still can display std VGA 80*43 or 80*50. The latest nviodioted cards even lost compatability at VGA registers level... --- |
