DiskMinder (DOSX)

I accidentaly found a free scandisk like tool (unfortunately without source) which works also in DOS.
Bad side is that it must be installed from Windows: http://www.mdgx.com/files/DISKMIND.EXE

This is from a commercial package called "Helix Nuts & Bolts". I do not encourage anyone to use it, because of its unclear license!

FreeDOS doesn't have SCANDISK, only CHKDSK (and DOSFSCK, which Eric Auer suggests instead if you don't need 16-bit cpu compatibility).

In other words, you don't need to use a commercial tool, there are "free" ones out there.
