MPXPLAY can play local compressed files with less than 5% CPU hogging and HD write performance is 15 MiB/s raw and 5 MiB/s files (FYI: FAT sucks), so the performance of the PC is not the problem at all (except you use Wista) ;-)

Looks like a problem of mTCP or packer driver or both together :-(

I had problems with other stuff too (WSTEST, MPXPLAY, OWB, WGET), so Arachne is the one providing best performance and causing least problems.

New ^^^ version 2010-Jul-1018, retest, performance just marginally better, also upload tested.

> IBM PC XT at 4.77Mhz with a 3Com 3C503 Ethernet adapter
> IBM PC XT at 4.77Mhz with a Xircom PE3-10BT parallel-port to Ethernet
> IBM PCjr at 4.77Mhz with a NEC V20 CPU, Xircom PE3-10BT parallel-port to Ethernet

So you have 3 different 8086-based PC's ???

NO, see above.

Why don't you make the shot on your XT rather than XP ???
