Strictly speaking, Solaris is considered a Unix because it traces it lineage to AT&T Unix (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Solaris#History). Part of the reason for POSIX (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX) was to ensure source code interoperability for various early UNIX distributions and Linux has long considered POSIX compatibility as part of its goals.
