Started with Slackware '96 on my own system (kernel 2.0.2x or so), though I of course already had 4.2BSD and 4.3BSD experience as an user. Unfortunately, FreeBSD (1.x,2.x) still required SCSI back then, so I ended up with Fat Penguin OS for the IDE support.
