You're telling that some test programs don't display errors, but to be sure: did those test programs successfully play digital sound which you were able to hear? If no, it might be a good idea to run the old SB16 diagnose programs. If this doesn't work, use one of the simple SB sample programs written in ASM. With such a thing the reason for the problem won't be able to hide itself anymore.
