The latter is the default setting in Firefox and other standard browsers. That's why I asked, why he disabled this setting in the past.

This is what it does with the <code> tag, as tom already pointed out.

But that's how the WWW worked for decades. The forum uses "font-family: courier-new, courier;" for <code>. Both fonts are widely used. If these fonts are not available on the user's computer, then the user's browser has a fallback mechanism to use a similar font instead.

It does not. See https://www.bttr-software.de/forum/style.css for the fonts used.

I know. And these downloads are sometimes larger than what fits on a 3.5" floppy. :-(
