OK, I conclude that RDRAND was not a smart idea. It's handy but only on newer CPUs and cannot be trusted. In fact, cybersecurity on a common modern x86 platform is just parody as you don't have neither HW nor FW under your control. There are too much proprietary stuff like CPU microcode, Management Engine, SMI handler that has higher priority (or out of band) over the OS/applications and cannot be audited.

But it's still not enough. A real secure system could be based on openHW CPU like RISC V or use some openHW CryptoChip - I read that one bitcoin company from our country Satoshilabs/Tropic square started developing its own cryptochip for HW BTC trezor (wallet)

And yes I'm aware about GPS telematics units in new vehicles as it's close to my job (I read about maybe 10 years ago it's planned to enforce this in every new vehicle)...
