Ron, i believe that in NU8, the installation-disk files that end in ! are zip archives. If you look at them with a hex viewer, they begin with the letters "PK"... and they can be successfully unzipped with an unzipper.

But you're right that they tried to hide the true nature of these files by changing the extension from the almost-universally-used ".ZIP". I guess they wanted to 'urge' users to use the installer they provided... which, ironically, only ran under Windows!
