Text Brightness (Users)

Is there a way to increase the brightness of the text on the FreeDos screen ?

I'm running it under Oracle VM Virtual Box.

If this is already documented, please just point me to it; thanks.

If not, thanks for the brains on loan.

Reprogramming the VGA palette registers to brighter values may help (I did something like this many years ago and it worked on a dim VGA display).
To persist, said reprogramming should be done on every switch to a text mode (a TSR will do).

Jerome Shidel wrote a vga palette tool (can't find it now, not sure if I mirrored it to the FreeDOS files archive on Ibiblio .. but it should be on Jerome's website). You can set the vga palette to adapt the text colors, such as to set "plain white" to use a brighter white.

Or traditional and almost forgotten way:

devload ansi.sys
prompt $e[1;32;40m$p$g
