It was here already many times discussed. The problem is non existency of wide accepted DOS sound API. So DOS most applications access sound card hardware directly. --- |

In fact, you should focus on old SB and new HDA standards. AC'97 is dead and usually on motherboards that has onboard AC'97 you can replace it by legacy ISA SB or PCI SB live/audigy with emulation driver. On newer PC you have only intel HDA (SB live emulation doesn't work). --- |
