Win 2K Keyboard Shutdown Sequence? (Users)

Does anyone here remember the keyboard sequence for shutting down or rebooting Windows 2000?

This morning when I turned on my computers, which I have connected to a KVM switch, the video on my oldest computer, which is still running Win2K, was dead, just a black screen. I tried bypassing the KVM switch and plugging the monitor directly into the video card on the computer, but still, no signal.

So I'd like to first try rebooting, but it's been so long since I've used keyboard commands to shut down a Win 2K system that I can't remember the sequence.

I do remember to start with that old Alt-Ctrl-Del key combo.

But then what? Is it Alt-H for sHutdown?

And then what's next if I want to try restarting?

Or if I want to shut down completely so I can pull the hard drive and install it in another machine?

If no-one here remembers the commands, then how about helping me brainstorm on where or how to find them on the web?

Win 2K Keyboard Shutdown Sequence?

I found this set of instructions on the web at http://www.danrodney.com/pc/:

Shut Down Windows 2000 Press Windows Key (don't hold it down)
Press U
Press S (To choose Shut Down from menu)
Press Enter

I tried it but instead of shutting down, the PC's power LED just switched from steady green glow to slow blinking on and off.

Could this mean that I've put the PC into sleep or hibernation or something like that?

I've tried pressing keys on the keyboard to try to get that power indicator LED to revert to being on steadily, but the keyboard seems to now be completely dead.

Have I painted myself into a corner?

I'd like to avoid having to shut down using the power button or having to resort to pulling the power cord, because you never know what you'll mess up doing that. And, now without a working monitor, I won't be able to see the prompts when I turn it back on.

I was hoping that a simple reboot might clear up the problem. But now I'm stuck.

If I can safely turn it off, I could try swapping in a different video card.

Any ideas? I'd be grateful for advice.

I guess I can always just pull the plug and then pull the HD and hook it up with a USB adapter to another computer and copy all the files over.

And I suppose I really need to hunt for a legacy Windows software/hardware forum to get help on this. Do you know of an active and reliable one?

If you had installed the system with ACPI enabled, then it should support ACPI power button feature - if you press power button shortly it should do regular OS shutndown instead of hard powerdown. If it is already in sleep mode pressing power button should wake it up. But if it hanged you will need hard power off.
