Bridged Adapter (Emulation)

I have this instruction...

Before you begin, please check

if you configured VirtualBox to use the “Bridged Adapter” for networking,

Does this screen tell me that I have done that ?...

Thank you (a lot; a whole lot)

If you are in the mood to share more brain power for my benefit, here is the thing I really can't comprehend...

"...check if you booted the FreeDOS 1.2net image or the FreeDOS 1.2-msc image with the boot option “”MS Client with TCP/IP protocol”. (1.2net) or “Load FreeDOS with MS Client” (1.2-msc)...."

I searched the Wiki for the phrases in that section of quoted text.

One result was over fifteen hundred words long.

The other result contained over ten thousand words.

Either way, it's total brain fail for me.

I think the guy who wrote those words above actually has the answer that I need to make this thing work; I just can't comprehend the concept with so many "or" words and parentheses injected into the sentence.

If you can clarify this for me, you are superman.

It sounds like these are boot menu choices.

This text is from https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/?page_id=350

The FreeDOS 1.2net image or the FreeDOS 1.2-msc image are complete FreeDOS installation for a specific task. "Image" means hard disk image for VirtualBox here.

Official links for download are broken or non-existing, but I found the right URLs:
https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/downloads/vhd/FreeDOS1.2-msc.vhd.zip
https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/downloads/vhd/FreeDOS1.2net.vhd.zip

For completeness: https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/downloads/vhd/FreeDOS1.2.vhd.zip

Let me attempt to clarify my confusion

(Ignore my oxymorons)

Do I want

- FreeDOS 1.2net image ? (I don't think so)

- the FreeDOS 1.2-msc image ?

How do I make...

- the boot option “”MS Client with TCP/IP protocol”.

...Appear on my screen when I boot ?

If that question is out of context, then how do I make the option...

- The “Load FreeDOS with MS Client”

...appear on my screen ?

Homework time over here; I will have to check to see whether I used...

- The FreeDOS 1.2net image
- (or)
- The FreeDOS 1.2-msc image

Thanks so much for helping me with the broken and working links.

Your advice and suggestions are always welcome

the MSC (Microsoft Client) is not open source or even GPL.

so I would be really surprised if there would be a FreeDOS 1.x setup DVD with MSC as it is all about GPL compatible open source.

You most likely have to look somewhere else.

use a shared folder

the MSC way to connect is a bit difficult.

much easier should be to use the VMWare Player as virtual machine, and use VMSMOUNT to connect a virtual drive to a shared host directory.

I could even provide ancient but small versions of VMware Player, if disk space or OS version is an issue:

28.2 MB - VMware-player-1.0.0-18587.exe,
28.8 MB - VMware-player-1.0.9-126128.exe,
170 MB (What a difference to the previous version!) - VMware-player-2.0.5-109488.exe,
48.7 MB - VMware-player-2.5.5-328052.exe,
89.9 MB - VMware-player-3.0.1-227600.exe
(More at VMware Player und Workstation ohne Umweg herunterladen, although download links do no longer work. I have offline copies.)

But I dunno, if VMSMOUNT works with these versions.

I have VMware Player 4.0.0 here, and VMSMOUNT certainly works.

That's interesting, because I have 4.0.4 installed here. :lol2:

Ulrich Hansen, maintainer of www.lazybrowndog.net, has fixed an issue with his WordPress installation.

So download links on these pages work now again:
FreeDOS1.2-msc: https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/?page_id=8
FreeDOS1.2net: https://www.lazybrowndog.net/freedos/virtualbox/?page_id=33
