Use Windows 1.0

Do I understand correctly that it is not in the real hardware but under some kind of virtualization?

Yes, it is in the VM virtual machine, I think the reason for the system startup error may be that my dos is not fully installed, in the "custom components", may not fully install all the components, this is just a personal speculation, if you have your own opinion, you can answer below

Use Windows 1.0

Hi, share your VM, it will be easier to find the problem.

Don't post download link in the thread, use the PM.

But sure something is not installed as it should or the vM settings are wrong.

Can be a memory problem or anything else.

Without seeing the contents of your config.sys and your autoexec.bat no way to have a first explanation.

I got win 1.0 run on real HW (my i7) so it shouldn't have problem in VMware. I don't remeber if it use some DOS memory manager or not, maybe try reduce RAM size of your VM. Also try DOS 6.22 with some basic config...

DOS gives me freedom to unlimited HW access.
