DUGL forum hosting :-( (Users)

I lost DUGL forum hosting for more than a week now :-(
Some one can confirm me this ? maybe this a problem with my ISP
If so what would be the best free forum hosting ?
I found http://www.freeforums.org it seems to be very good but i don't want that he die after 2 years

Why not move DUGL to SourceForge.net, freshmeat.net (also a SourgeForge company), Savannah, or Google Code completely? They also provide forums or mailing lists.

I'm not sure but they seem to force the user to use a GPL, LGPL or free license.
And DUGL is free for non commercial use.

Are 5-10 bucks per month not affordable for a commercial product?

DUGL isn't yet a commercial product.

It is, although you don't earn any money from it currently.

commercial DUGL

Semi-commercial at best, in my definition a commercial product must:

- Be created for the primary purpose of making money (DUGL isn't)
and
- Require payment (or pull the money some other way) for private use (beyond some crippled/crappy/expiring "free" trials/demos) also (DUGL doesn't)

Yes currently and with a little chance in the future. But i don't care as I'm doing this with my very little free time and for fun to increase the chance of DOS to come back as a true OS alternative for a daily use.
Commercial license is just because i think that it's very legitimate to ask money from some one who is going to use DUGL to earn money.

I confirm it is broken. Maybe something with SQL database?
Here is the log:

mySQL query error: DELETE FROM DUGL_sessions WHERE running_time < 1221375809 or member_id='2'

mySQL error: Table 'DUGL_sessions' is marked as crashed and should be repaired
mySQL error code:
Date: Sunday 14th of September 2008 02:03:29 AM

Yes it seems to be a problem with the SQL data base, but i have no access to it.

I can confirm this...

I don't recommend using it.

> If so what would be the best free forum hosting ?

Don't use forum hosting if you don't get access to the database. With database access you can use your backup and go somewhere else. Without database access you are addicted and like with drugs it's always bad to be addicted to someone.

Ask someone else for hosting.

Or get in contact with Nevasca project, http://nevasca.fbdevzone.com/forum/index.php
dunno if ftp access would go ok. If not the admin could set up a forum and also set up a script which uploads the database every day where you can login with password and download a backup.

Or try asking Robert Riebisch from bttr-software.de if he is willing to sponsor some free hosting.

Nothing guaranteed to work, but these are possibility with at least a chance for success.

You are right, but i think that for a fun project i don't lose much to switch again to a new forum when the old forum is dead. Any way DUGL isn't yet a popular game library. So i think that i will switch with freeforums at least temporarly.

I really do prefer to don't bother others.

Fun project? If it would be a fun project you could go Open Source and use some Open Source hoster.

Just to think about it, many people tend not to register at the new forums.

> I really do prefer to don't bother others.

Why not? Just ask and see whenever them like or not. It's just a question.

You can also set up your own forum on your own or free (ad free) webspace. Isn't that hard I think.

Yes a fun project that tooked me the cumulated work of the equal of 3 years :-) I think i can't talk about a serious project when I'm doing it on my little free time.
I'm not yet convinced about open Sourcing the project.

Yes this is why I still keep hope that the forum will come back soon, I'm still waiting the answer from the support.

Little misunderstanding here...

You said before:

Me later:

Later you:

> Yes a fun project that tooked me the cumulated work of the equal of 3

> I'm not yet convinced about open Sourcing the project.

So, imho the term "fun project" isn't the right one here. It's a real project for you, otherwise you would care less.

Not sure if I successfully said now what I wanted but nvm, the important point of mine has been discussed already.

It's dead ... but it already used to be several times ... and undied then ... so no final loss yet :-|

Free forums are usually crappy (see CC386 "forum" :-( ).

SF doesn't require GPL, but open source, so your closed source DUGL core doesn't qualify.

So we have to discuss here or at the forum of King Udo or ...

Call me crazy, but I suspect DOS386 is probably referring to other web browsers (in particular, DOS ones like Arachne).
