BTW, newer (ESATA? SATA II? SSD?) hard drives are weird. I don't know the details, obviously, but some even have something like 4 kb for genuine sectors and internal caches and just emulate 512 bytes for compatibility (or something dumb, see Linux FS discussions for details). Yeah, it's very arcane, very annoying. In short, who cares, if it works, it works!
