a) whatever 'rather slow', 'faster', and 'still slower' means.
use http://www.drivesnapshot.de/freedos/rawread.htm or similar to discuss disk speed.

b) read speed is entirely up to your BIOS. if the BIOS doesn't support 6Gb/s but only 3Gb/s, you won't see 6 Gb/s.
somewhat similar to usage of UDMA mode which only very few BIOS vendors supported until only recently.
