I think so, as you 1st have to load some ATAPI/AHCI/SCSI driver that is HW specific and then MSCDEX or clonees interact with such driver without knowledge what HW is below.

BTW Bret, do you plan to implement EHCI support? Unfortunatelly even EHCI became outdated and all modern MBs has XHCI only so totally incompatible with old UHCI/EHCI aware systems...
