This confirms my experiences with DVD-RAM also. All of my discs are rotted. Some are 14 or 15 years old, they were never reliable to begin with. Most optical media is rubbish. The best brands, Taiyo-Yuden were discontinued years ago, and what is made now is mostly Chinese garbage. I have TY media from over 20 years ago that still plays perfectly, with no errors (c1 and low c2 error rate). For BD-R, I find Optical Quantum brand to be the most reliable made today.
