Compilation speed with GCC (Developers)

General unix. I know it best from ext2 and ufs (the latter under FreeBSD, my primary *nix)

Yes, but configure adds it automatically if possible or the default make.conf did, don't know exactly anymore, but iirc it didn't need to be set manually on *nixes.
