Even PCX has some wimpy optional compression, no? I think most tools don't support the compressed variants, that's why. (I guess you know that JPEG is a pain!!!)

The only PNG viewers for DOS (off the top of my head) are Display, QV/PNG, and Pictview. Nothing for < 386, though (probably moot but still ... I can't say I don't dream of writing / porting bzip2 [-2 at least], .png viewer, etc).

Actually, I think we were both naive. That Firefox on HX is apparently just an April Fools joke. Ironic, though, since it's plausible in theory (barely)!

OGV -> search for the APEG thread
7-Zip -> 7za (Win32 binary w/ HX), DJGPP p7zip, my various 7zdec compiles

You can definitely read .PDFs in DOS, just not easily (and I never bothered), e.g. Ghostview, XPDF, Acroread (only old old .PDFs, but my Falcon 4.0 CD has it!). Nah, I wouldn't recommend it, but heck, I still think the text file from GALCON 7.5 seems good enough!!

It's almost funny how all you guys (you, Ninho, Jason) have to be careful not to annoy the wives with your computer projects, heh. I guess I'll get there one of these days. ;-)
