Not sure how useful this would be in the context of MS-DOS in general. Things like memory-mapped file I/O and demand loading are very much tied to virtual memory paging mechanisms, and MS-DOS is meant to support systems which do not even have any notion of virtual memory.

An API for memory-mapped files might kind of make sense in the context of 32-bit DPMI, though.
