I fail to see how this should be considered as a variant of "MS-DOS", and not as a separate operating system of its own (which is perfectly fine in itself).

It is like someone wrote a new OS which superficially looks and feels like Linux, but which does not even try to be able to run existing Linux programs.

Speaking of Linux, Linus himself wrote an entire MSc thesis about the whole idea of OS portability.
