AFAIK M$ don't support and develop DOS in any way so I donn't understand what you mean with "depend". NTVDM is just a bonus helping windows users to run old DOS apps but M$ will not implement any new features to it - instead they are removing features and remove whole NTVDM.
As a partial windows NT-based user I like to have NTVDM instead nothing. So I like NTVDM enhancements too like VDM Sound and dgVoodoo and TAMEDOS which runs DOS apps under NTVDM better.
