WSS is the sound library written by Shigeaki Sakamaki for his VSyncMame. Perhaps he called it WSS because before anything else he added WSS audio support.

It has vidix enabled and working. If you have a video card supported by the vidix drivers, use Mplayer with "-vo vesa:vidix".
