I went through old mails with Mik and remember we discused vidix - he told that new Nvidia and ATI lacks some YUV overlay feature so no acceleration can be done this way. So we gave it up.

I found that -nodouble option will make it much better, no jumping but only sometimes small lag. Maybe Mik did more patching around that, did you applied all his patches?
