I would rather they patented something entirely new and useful than holding on so strictly to what people are already using and familiar with. But I guess if I had 72,000 mouths to feed too, I'd be a bit clingy also. ;-)

That's not what I meant. And who knows whether they will add it. Maybe patent woes will scare them away.

There must be because exFAT supports much bigger file sizes (2^64, aka 16 exbibytes). As the Wikipedia article mentions, exFAT (for example) used 96 KB where NTFS used 47 MB overhead (on a 4 GB flash drive). Quite a difference. :-P
