BIG "C" compiler comparison thread (Developers)

Was Aztec the one by Manx or something else? I'm not even sure I know of any programs explicitly that used any of those three compilers (by Aztec: some *nix shell workalike, I forget the name). And didn't Lattice eventually get bought by MS and turned into MS C? As far as DeSmet, it's been resurrected (barely), and apparently, there was even a PCC shareware fork.

BTW, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Turbo C was popular because of its nice IDE, low cost, and fast compilation speed.
