For sure ELF is more prevalent (Linux, BSD) than COFF is. The DJGPP/ELF can share with others better, I suppose.

OpenWatcom supports three kinds of debugging info: Watcom, DWARF (default since 11.0), or CodeView. And DJGPP now uses STABS (I think?) unless you type "-gcoff" or "-gdwarf-2", and I dunno if RHIDE supports other than COFF (but RHIDE is dead so ...).
