Yes, that's all correct. Or you could even use AdvanceComp to recompress any .ZIP in memory using 7-Zip's improved Deflate. It does remove .ZIP comments and extra field info, but almost nobody needs those anyways. Yes, any unzipper can unpack 'em. The only real downside is that 7-Zip / advzip run slower than normal ZIP.

Anyways, since FPC needs 386+ anyways, it might be best to just transition to 7-Zip entirely (for the distribution archives) since it compresses better (and even DOS supports it now). It has plenty of options, so it's very very flexible and still being tweaked. ;-)

I agree re: reduced download time, but I think some people won't. :-/
(Also, I still fully support UPX as useful in most cases.)
